Alice Jane Godde, of Pennfield Twp., was born August 22, 1924 in Lowell, Vegenees Township, MI and graduated from High School in Lowell, MI.   She died at Legacy at the Oaks on August 13, 2014 at the age of 89.    She was loved and cherished by everyone.
 
     Alice was born Alice Jane VanDeusen and was the adopted-daughter, at age 2, by Clinton and Florence Hill.   She married Earl William Snyder in 1942 which ended in divorce in 1958. She then married Charles Sprague Godde in 1959.    Alice had two children Violet Snyder Hinton and Mary Lou Snyder Walker.
     She was predeceased by her husband Charles S.  Godde, daughter Mary Lou Walker in 1968 with bone cancer and her great grandson Bryce Worthington; her father William Albert VanDeusen, her mother Celista Desdemona Baker, her adopted father Clinton Douglas Hill and adopted mother Florence L. Hill, her sisters Ora Mae Stevens, Naomie Celista Smith, Ellamae Beldon.
     She is survived by her daughter Violet Hinton and son-in-law Barney Hinton, five grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and five great great-grandchildren.
She was employed at various jobs until Weston Biscuit Interbake and worked there from 1952 until she retired in 1986. While employed at Weston Biscuit Co., she was a steward for the union and fought for equal rights for women and bargaining committees. Upon her retirement she worked at Pennfield Blight and Pennfield Health and Welfare & Safety. She volunteered for Meals-on-Wheels, joined the Pennfield Optimist Club, she was a Trustee for Pennfield Executive Committee from 2002 to 2004 and she attended the Police Academy and volunteered any time that they requested her help, and ran the Pennfield Neighborhood Watch.  She was the Grand Marshall for Pennfield 2002.
       She enjoyed quilting, crocheting doilies and making clothes for family and friends, working in her garden, canning, fishing and riding motorcycles.
     A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm, Friday, August 15, 2014 at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home with Pastor Bradley J. Smith of the Grace Community Church officiating.  A visitation will be held at 12:00 noon, one hour prior to the service.
