Alice Marie (Keyes) Lathrop of Plainwell, MI
Alice, age 92, died Tuesday morning, February 3, 2015 at her daughter's residence and following a lengthy illness.
Alice, the daughter of Harley and Rena (Irwin) Keyes, was born on July 18, 1922 in Bloomingdale, MI; she was raised in Petoskey, MI and moved to the Kalamazoo area in 1944. She was proud member of the "Rosie the Riveter" Ladies who manufactured bombers during World War II in Ypsilanti, MI. She had been the Snack Bar Manager for the Gull Lake Country Club for over 20 years. Alice enjoyed going to church and gospel music; she was a Maestro with the violin; she assisted John with his woodworking projects and she absolutely loved her babies! After John's death, she lived with Roberta and Rudy for the past 8 and a half years and enjoyed taking walks; watching all the flowers blooming and the baby ducks in the yard.
Alice was united in marriage to the "Love of her Life," John G. Lathrop on December 14, 1945 in Kalamazoo and he sadly preceded her in death on March 9, 2007 after 62 years of marriage. Surviving are three daughters, Glenda L. McElvain of Battle Creek, MI, Carol A. (Sam) Little of Galesburg, MI and Roberta L. (Rudy) Vist of Plainwell; her son, Michael L. (Cheryl) Lathrop of Gobles, MI; sixteen grandchildren; thirty two great grandchildren; sixteen great great grandchildren and her sister, Evelyn Beatie of Rockport, OR. Alice was also preceded in death by her parents and nine sisters and brothers.
A Celebration of Life for Alice will be held on Saturday, February 21st from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the Gunplain Township Hall, 381 8th Street, Plainwell, MI 49080. Final interment will take place next to her beloved husband, John in Fort Custer National Cemetery, Augusta, MI. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Alice's honor may be directed to the Reverence Home Health and Hospice, 348 N. Burdick Street, Kalamazoo, MI 49007. The Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home, Richland Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
