Alice Louise (Scott) Merrill

Alice Louise (Scott) Merrill, 93, of Battle Creek died peacefully at Bickford Assisted Living on Sunday, November 3, 2019.

Alice was born July 3, 1926 in Battle Creek the daughter of Wesley B. and Irma A. (Watson) Scott. She was a 1944 graduate of Galesburg High School and then earned an Executive Secretarial Degree from Argubright Business College in Battle Creek. Alice was employed as a secretary 1947-1960 in the Dining Car Department for Grand Trunk Western Railroad.

On January 25, 1951, Alice L. Scott was united in marriage to Donald L. Merrill in Galesburg, Michigan. Alice was preceded in death by her husband, Donald, at the age of 78, on June 8, 2007. Don served during WWII in the U.S. Coast Guard and then together they owned and operated Merrill Heating & Cooling in Kalamazoo during the 1970's & 1980's. Surviving are her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Merv and Judy Caswell of Battle Creek; two nephews, Scott Christler, Roger (Heather) Caswell; a niece, Debbie (Jeff) Powers; a cousin, Cheryl Davidson; and numerous great nieces, nephews, cousins and all of their families. In addition to her husband, Alice was also preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Kathryn J. Scott Christler; a brother-in-law, Philip R. Merrill and a nephew, Michael S. Caswell.

Her husband Don was a ham radio operator and they were members of a CB Club. Their hobbies included gardening, Bingo and helping others. Don and Alice loved dogs.

Military honors for Donald and a service to celebrate Don and Alice's lives will be held 2:30 p.m. Friday, November 8, 2019, at Fort Custer National Cemetery
