Alice Katherine (Shirlaw) Montague

Alice Katherine (Shirlaw) Montague, age 93, of Battle Creek, Michigan passed away on Sunday afternoon, September 11, 2022.

Alice was born October 8, 1928, in Battle Creek, Michigan to James G. and Candace A. (Jarvis) Shirlaw. She was a 1946 graduate of Battle Creek Central High School. Alice was united in marriage to James Raymond Montague on May 17, 1947, in the First Baptist Church, Battle Creek, MI. Alice was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Jim on January 10, 2008. In addition to her husband, Alice was also preceded in death by her parents James and Candace Shirlaw; sister, Jane Siefke; daughter, Peggy Olivarri and son-in-law, Richard Forman. Surviving are three daughters, Jean (Raymond) Shutt of Friendsville, TN, Vickie Forman of Battle Creek, and Mary (Robert) Anderson of Battle Creek; a sister, Shirley Kling of Plainwell, MI and son-in-law, Ken Olivarri, Battle Creek; 10 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.

Alice was a homemaker raising her four daughters before returning to the workforce in 1964. She began a career at the Battle Creek Federal Center, 1964-1974, during which time she was recognized several times for her outstanding work ethic. Alice left the Federal Center in 1974, relocating to Adamsville, Tennessee where she and her husband purchased the Adamsville Recreation Center; a golf, swimming, and recreational club. Alice and Jim moved to Dade City, FL upon retiring from the Golf Course and enjoyed several years golfing, and participating in events at their park.

Alice loved family time and raising her family at Fine Lake. She also enjoyed golf with Jim and all of the "girls" events. She was a gifted musician and will always be remembered for her music that graced the lives of so many including family, friends and her co-residents at Calhoun County. Alice will also be remembered for her beautiful, infectious smile that greeted everyone.

The family is grateful to the staff at Brookdale Battle Creek and Calhoun County Medical Care Facility for the wonderful care their beloved mother received during her final years.

No services will be held, cremation has taken place and a private family inurnment will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association. Arrangements are by Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care.
