Allan E. Haywood, Jr., age 85, passed away on Thursday morning, November 7, 2013 at Lifespan Good Samaritan Hospice Residence of Battle Creek, MI.  Allan, the son of Allan E. Haywood and Bonnie (Holcomb) Haywood, was born April 23, 1928 Battle Creek, Michigan and he was a lifelong resident of Battle Creek, only residing for a brief time in Grosse Ile, Michigan.  On April 4, 1947, he was united in marriage to former Evelynn M. Anderson at Lakeview Baptist Church in Battle Creek.
Allan graduated from Battle Creek Central High School in 1946 and attended Ferris State University.  He was a Railroad Engineer for Grand Trunk Canadian National, retiring in 1986 as Senior Engineer of Design and Instruction, after over 30 years of faithful service.  He is a former member of First Congregational Church, Battle Creek and a current member of First Presbyterian Church, Battle Creek.
Allan was an avid sports fan, golfer, loved the outdoors and hunting.  He will be remembered by his loved ones for his sense of humor, his willingness to give of this time and talents for their numerous housing projects and his love of family.  He will be greatly missed by the many whose lives he has touched with his generous acts of kindness.
Surviving is his wife of 66 years, Evelynn;  his sisters, Barbara J. Lake of Augusta, MI and Carolyn E. Rupel of Battle Creek; daughters, Terry (Chuck)  Vandervelde of Holland, MI; Susan (Tom) Wood and Janett (Gary) Bundy, both of Battle Creek;  Kristine (Amy Belstra) Haywood of Fox Lake, IL and daughter-in-law, Lori Haywood of Battle Creek; 11 grandchildren,  Laura (Chris) Jones, John (Kari) Vandervelde, Sarah (Ed) Pollack, David Vandervelde, Jeremy (Sarah) Wood, Marissa (Marvin) Voke, Bonnie (David) Lewis, Jane (Matt) Lynch, Jackie (George) Gramas, Jacob (Amber)Haywood,  Joel Haywood and 29 great grandchildren.  Allan was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Allan E. Haywood, III "Trip" in 2009.
The Memorial Service to celebrate Allan's life will be held on Saturday, November 16th at 1:00 at Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home, Battle Creek with Rev. Patricia J. Weatherwax, Associate Pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, officiating.  Friends will be received from noon until service time at the funeral home. Final interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Battle Creek.
