Alonzo Orso Chatman, Jr.

Alonzo Chatman Jr. affectionately known by family and friends as “Lonnie Jr./Ace or Lonzo” was born October 23, 1955, in Cincinnati Ohio. The son of Alonzo “Lonnie” Chatman Sr. and Mary E. “Betty” Chatman, he was the eldest of his siblings.

On August 19, 1978, Alonzo was united in marriage to the love of his life June L. Atkinson, from this union brought forth three children: a daughter Domonique Roshell and two sons, Alonzo James III and Jeremyah Ahmiel.

A graduate of Roger Bacon High School in June of 1974; Alonzo went on to serve on the USS Constellation CV64 as a member of the United States Navy from December 2, 1976 – September 21, 1982. During Alonzo’s tour of duty, he was awarded the Air Department Excellence Award for standing first in the Air Departments among all aircraft carriers, his outstanding performance and overall “Team Effort’ contributed to this prestigious award. A graduate of Kellogg Community College in July of 1987, Alonzo earned an Associate Degree in Applied Science Fire Science. As an employee of Bronson Battle Creek Hospital Alonzo worked 15 ½ years as an Environmental Services Associate.

Alonzo’s dedication to being a righteous man of the “Most High” Yahweh, devoted loving husband, father, “Grandad” and overall family man was what brought him the most gratification and joy. Reading/ studying the Bible, gardening, watching Syfy, old western movies and college sports, working on his car/home projects and listening to reggae music also brought great pleasure.

Alonzo leaves to cherish his memory and celebrate his life; daughter, Domonique Roshell, sons Alonzo James III daughter-in-love (Joy) and Jeremyah Ahmiel, brother and sister, Glenn Ernest “Ernie” and Gina Lynn (Jeff Dumas) of Cincinnati, OH, grandsons Romello Rashad Thompson, Faheem Symir Hines, Alonzo IV, Yahiem, Kemar, and Yahrell Chatman, sisters-in-law, Jennifer “Renee” Williams, Joyce “Toby” (Larry Gill) of Chicago, IL, Janet (Maurice Williams) of Chicago, IL, and a host of family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Alonzo “Lonnie” Chatman Sr. and Mary E. “Betty” Chatman, loving wife June L. Chatman, father and mother-in-law, James “Bubbles” and Evelyn Atkinson, brother and sister-in-law, David (Anieta) Atkinson, and brother-in-law Ronald Williams.
