Alyce Virginia (Howard) McDonagh of Battle Creek, MI

Alyce, age 83, died Thursday morning, October 18, 2018 at her residence after a long battle with cancer.

Alyce, the daughter of Kenneth O. and Elizabeth D. (Miller) Howard, was born in Kalamazoo, MI on July 21, 1935 and was a lifetime area resident. Her early years were spent with her grandparents, the Miller's and when they developed a produce farm into the Pine Knolls Golf Course, she became an accomplished golfer. Alyce was a 1953 graduate of Battle Creek Central High School. Over the years Alyce won many golf tournaments both locally and statewide. She was a member of Marywood Country Club where she was club champion many times and she was Battle Creek City Champion over 8 times.

Alyce worked as an Administrative Assistant for Congressman Garry Brown in the '70's and retired as an Executive Assistant to the Calhoun County Administrator.

She enjoyed working in her flower gardens and spending time with friends on her boat on Goguac Lake. She was an avid fan of THE University of Michigan Football, the Detroit Lions and of course, Golf.

Alyce was united in marriage to James "Jim" McDonagh on November 24, 1993 and he preceded her in death on October 2, 1998. Alyce was also preceded in death by her parents and her devoted companion, Robert B. "Bob" Reish on November 25, 2009.

Surviving is "Special Daughter," Connie Strong; longtime beloved friends she considered her family, Betty Strong, Beth, Sam, Kelly and Sarah Enskat of Chicago, IL; Dana and Danny Varga of Battle Creek; many other cherished friends and her cats, Stanley & Callie.

The Memorial Visitation will be held on Friday, November 2nd from 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, Battle Creek, where a procession will depart at 2:00 p.m. for the Graveside Service to celebrate Alyce's life at 2:30 p.m. at Fort Custer National Cemetery, Augusta, MI. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Alyce's honor may be directed to Companion Cats, P.O. Box 2568, Battle Creek, MI 49016 or the Humane Society of South Central Michigan, 2500 Watkins Road, Battle Creek, MI 49015.
