Amelia Christine “Amy” Schmeding (née Nitchman), beloved wife of Michael P. Schmeding, daughter of Brady and Barbara Nitchman, and daughter-in-law of Michael D. Schmeding and the late Brigid Schmeding, unexpectedly passed away on the morning of August 30, 2026.
Amy was a devoted wife, loving mother, cherished daughter, sister, aunt, godmother, and friend. She was a pillar of the Gull Lake community and a passionate supporter of Gull Lake sports and Gull Lake Community Schools. Her dedication to her family, her community, and the many lives she touched was evident in all that she did. She gave generously of herself and made a lasting difference in the lives of those fortunate enough to know her.
Amy is survived by her devoted husband of 16 years, Mike Schmeding, and their three beloved children: daughter Autumn, 13, and sons Andrew and Aiden, both 11.
She is also survived by her three siblings and their families: Joel (Piper) Nitchman, Suzie (Mike) Martinchek, and Michael (Bridget) Nitchman; and her siblings-in-law Kerry (Mark) Goldsack, Shannon (Alex) Nammour, and Sioban (Mark) Schmeding. She was a much-adored aunt to Charlotte, Thompson, Josie, Stella, Brayden, James, Henry, Mark Vincent, Abigail, Connor, Hudson, and Matilda. She also leaves behind many beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, and countless friends who will miss her dearly.
Visitation will be held at the Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, Richland Chapel on Thursday, September 3, 2026, from 4:00–8:00 p.m. A rosary will be prayed at 7:30 p.m.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Ann Catholic Church in Augusta, Michigan, on Friday, September 4, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Yorkville Cemetery.
Amy’s love, kindness, strength, and unwavering devotion to her family and community will remain forever in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. Her greatest legacy will be the love she gave so freely, the family she cherished above all else, and the countless lives she touched along the way.
