Andrew Scott Atkins Johnson

Andrew Scott Atkins Johnson, 40, of Lakewood, Colorado, passed away unexpectedly in early January 2026.

Andy was born on November 26, 1985, in Paw Paw, Michigan. He grew up in both Paw Paw and Mattawan, Michigan, and graduated from Mattawan High School.

A beloved son, brother, nephew, father, cousin, uncle, and friend, Andy treasured spending time with his loved ones. His presence was warm and positive. He was known for caring deeply about his family and friends as well as for his smile, his laugh, and his humor. Those around him greatly appreciated Andrew’s thoughtful and quick wit.

Andy liked to skateboard, snowboard, golf, and rock climb. He enjoyed attending sporting events, especially the Indianapolis 500, and greatly appreciated music. He treasured family vacations to Barothy Lodge and Big Moose Lake. He worked as a photographer, participated in medical mission work in Belize, and attended NASA Space Camp twice. Andy studied astronomy, math, and finance at Metropolitan State University, Denver; New Mexico State University-Alamogordo; San Diego Mesa College; and Kalamazoo Valley Community College.

Andrew is survived by his mother, Sue Johnson Phillippe, (stepfather Jim Phillippe); his father Fenimore William Johnson (stepmother Marcia Johnson); his brothers Fenimore Jeffrey Atkins Johnson, and William Thomas “Tom” Atkins Johnson (sister-in-law Jessica Johnson); his stepbrothers, Corey and James Phillippe and Jeff and Scott Getman; his niece, Jasmine Grosel; his biological daughter Alyssa Fredin, and many other loving family members and friends including Alex, Carol, and Dennis Fredin, Gordon Roscoe, the Norrises, the Johnsons, and the Birkes.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Warren and Janette Atkins, grandparents Fenimore and Vicki Johnson; his cousin and friend, Mike Norris; and numerous aunts and uncles.

Services will take place on May 16, 2026:

Interment Service: 10 am at Yorkville Cemetery, 1251 W. Gull Lake Dr., Richland, MI 49083

Church Service & Luncheon: 11 am at St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church, 9800 E B C Ave, Richland, MI 49083

Celebration of Life gathering: 4-6 pm at Paw Paw Brewing Company, 708 S. Gremps St, Paw Paw, MI 49079, live music 6-9 pm
