Angela "Angie" Edwards
Battle Creek, Michigan
On Tuesday February 23,2021 at 3:00 a.m., Angela "Angie" Edwards lost her battle to Cancer while surrounded by her loving family. She ascended to Heaven to meet the Lord as the beautiful angel she was.
Waiting for her was her dad, Charles Edwards Jr. & her mother, Deborah K (Hassler) Edwards; brother, Michael "Doughboy" Edwards; paternal grandparents, Harvey and Imogene (Price) Edwards; maternal grandparents, Troy Hassler and Laura (Edwards) Bell; a very special uncle, Melvin Edwards Sr, and special cousin, Melvin "Turk" Edwards Jr. She is survived by her best friend and sister, Shawna Edwards; her nephews, Michael (Morgan) Edwards of Delton, Troy (Amber) Edwards of Dowling, Charles Edwards Jr. of Miamisburg Ohio, Juanito Edwards and Kaleb Mejia of Battle Creek; her nieces are her namesake, Angela (Baby Angie) Mejia of Battle Creek, and Isabella Edwards of Miamisburg Ohio; her great-nephew, Rowan Edwards of Dowling and great-niece; Lillian Mejia of Benton Harbor; her protector & cousin, Jamie Edwards; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Angie was born on March 22,1972 in Crab Orchard, Tennessee. She moved to Michigan with her mother when she was just 2 years old. She attended Battle Creek Public schools and was a graduate of the Class of 1994. Angie was always taking care of people. It started with her dad who was comatose for 9 and a half years, then it was her grandparents, favorite uncle and many more after that. She was the manager of Roadway Inn here in Battle Creek along with the Super 8 motel in Coldwater MI.
Angie loved kids. Nothing could ever stop her from loving every child she was around. She made everybody feel welcome, sometimes to welcome because they never wanted to leave. She was never hard to find either, just look for a lawn chair in the road and there she was, fountain pop in one hand and cigarette in the other. Every day the race track was open you would find her in the bleachers, cheering on her favorite drivers (she knew them all) to victory.
We want to say a very heart-felt thank you to her nieces and nephews; Alexis (Dalton) and Autumn (Danjour) Edwards, Jaleal Edwards, Juanito Edwards, Kaleb Mejia, and her namesake (who she was so proud of) Angela Mejia for taking such wonderful care of her. And the wonderful staff at Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan, they are angels. Her sister who was her best friend Shawna "Sissy" Edwards. And of course, our rock, who is always there for us, loving us unconditionally, and who cared for her until she took her last breath, Aunt Lynne "Aunt Fatt" Edwards.
How do you say goodbye to a woman like her? A loving daughter, a sister who was always your best friend, a terrific aunt and a very precious niece? You don't. You simply tell her, "I will see you soon. Save a place for me."
Fly high my dear friend. Fly high.
A celebration of Angie's life will be held later in the year when it is safe to gather again. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the family c/o Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, would be appreciated.
