Angus E. Gilley

Angus E. Gilley, 94 yrs old, of Battle Creek, MI, surrounded by his family, peacefully went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on May 15, 2025. He was born in Century, FL on June 19, 1930 the son of Angus and Bessie (Garrett) Gilley. Angus was an Army Veteran, retired from Clark Equipment as a journeyman machinist, and was owner/operator of Gilley’s Lawn Service. He was the first Greens Superintendent at Binder Park Golf Course, and his lawn service was one of the first in Battle Creek.

Angus is survived by four children, David (Faye) Gilley of Lake Placid FL, Rita LaFountain of Battle Creek, Tammy (Dale) Geminder of Battle Creek, and Michael (Chris) Gilley of Battle Creek; twelve grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren; nine great-great grandkids; a brother, Mackey Gilley; and two sisters, Betty Beatty, and Martha York. Angus was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife of 64 yrs, Glenna J. (Lackey) Gilley; a brother, Thomas Gilley; and a sister, Frances Louise Beard.

Angus loved Overflow Church of Battle Creek and took great pride in lawn maintenance at the church. He loved spending time with his family, yard work, fishing, golf, and making bird houses for family and friends. He was also an avid fan of Christian and Country music.

The family will receive friends 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 21, 2025 at Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, Battle Creek where funeral services to celebrate his life will be held 1:00 p.m., Thursday, May 22, 2025. The service will be Live-Streamed and may be viewed at https://vimeo.com/event/5138091. Interment will follow at Newbre Cemetery, Emmett Township.
