Ann Elizabeth (Burger) Hyndman, 94, of Wolverine, Michigan, died peacefully at her daughter’s home in Augusta, Michigan.

 

She was preceded in death in 2010 by her husband, Lee A. Hyndman, and by her parents Isabel (Wyman) and Patrick Burger, and by all ten of her siblings. She is survived by her daughters Valerie (the late Kernon Gibes) Hyndman and Barbara (Robert) Vines, and by her son John (Lisa) Hyndman. She is also survived by six grandchildren, including Kathryn (Chris) Elliott, Sara (Maria) Allen, LeeAnn and Ian Hyndman, and Nathan (Mina Lor) and Nora Gibes. She has two great grandchildren, Kilee Hyndman, and Lee Elliott.

 

Ann was born in Detroit and graduated valedictorian from Southwestern High School in Detroit in 1946. In 1950 she was one of only two women to receive a BS in Chemistry at Michigan State University.  She went on to work as a chemist at the Michigan Department of Public Health, in Lansing, where she met her husband Lee. Ann returned to MSU while her children were still young and obtained her teaching degree in secondary mathematics. She taught math in the Lansing Public Schools for a few years, before obtaining a real estate broker’s license and working as a realtor and a home appraiser. Ann and Lee moved from East Lansing to Wolverine, Michigan in 2000 where she could enjoy her beloved Silver Lake, which she had visited annually since childhood fishing trips with her father. She loved playing bridge, researching her genealogy, and taking spontaneous road trips.

 

A brief graveside service will be held at Catholic Shrine Cemetery in Indian River, MI on Thursday July 27, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. Friends and family are invited to visit afterwards at Ann’s home on Silver Lake in Wolverine. Personal messages for Ann’s family may be shared at www.farleyestesdowdle.com.
