Anna Luise (Schneider) Sonicksen

Anna Luise “Ann” (Schneider) Sonicksen, 95, of Battle Creek died peacefully on June 11, 2023, in Evergreen Manor.

Anna was born February 13, 1928, in Bonnigheim, Germany to Herman Gottlieb and Maria Magdalene (Ebert) Schneider. She grew up in Stuttgart Feuerbach, Germany where she attended school. 

In 1946, She met the love of her life, who was serving overseas in the European Occupation (WWII), with the U.S. Army. Anna Luise Sonicksen was united in marriage to Wesley Charles Sonicksen on December 3, 1948, in Stuttgart Feuerbach, Germany. Sadly, Anna was preceded in death by “Wes”, her husband of 71 years on December 9, 2019. Surviving are two daughters, Diane Lutz of Battle Creek, Pat (Mark) Donley of Lawton, MI; four grandchildren, Jenny (Jared) Sutton, Jim (Darci) Dotson, Heather (Michael) Rooney, Michelle (Ramsey) Cross and six great-grandchildren, Skyler, Mackenzie, Caleb, Zach, Rebecca and Elizabeth.  

Anna has been a member of Chapel Hill United Methodist Church since 1957. She was active in the Women’s Society, taught Second Grade Sunday School, was a Youth leader and was a Choir Mother for the Children’s Choir for 40+ years. Anna was a devoted wife and mother and enjoyed taking care of her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed attending school events for her daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. During the summer months, she enjoyed working in her beautiful flower gardens. She also made special shaped birthday cakes for grandchildren’s birthdays. 

Friends will be received Friday, June 16, 2023, from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Chapel Hill United Methodist Church, Battle Creek, MI with a service to celebrate Anna’s life immediately following at 1:00 p.m. at the church. Committal and interment will follow at Floral Lawn Memorial Gardens.  Memorial contributions may be made to Chapel Hill United Methodist Church, 157 Chapel Hill Drive, Battle Creek, MI 49015.
