Anthony Sebastian Calderone

April 22, 1930 — October 11, 2016

Anthony Sebastian Calderone, 86, of Battle Creek died peacefully on October 11th after a long illness.


He was born April 22, 1930 in Albion, Michigan to Victor and Elvira (Cacciatore) Calderone. Tony grew up in Albion and was a 1949 graduate of Albion High School. He received his Bachelor's Degree in Business from Western Michigan University. Anthony also honorably served his country in the National Guard. He was employed from high school until 1966 at the family business, Albion Beverage Company. He retired as an Adult Protective Services Worker from the Calhoun County Department of Social Services in 1992, after 26 years.


Tony is survived by his former wife, Lois (Shuckhart) Calderone; their three children, Lisa M. (John) Spierings of Newport Beach, CA, Paul V. (Elizabeth) Calderone of Woodcliff Lake, NJ, Marylyn Calderone of Battle Creek; five grandchildren, William, T.J., Teddy, Charles, Miranda; a great-grandson, Vincent; a brother, Sam (Judy) Calderone of Albion; two sisters, Carmela Calderone of Albion, Marianna (Henry) Horwitz of Wilton, CT; two sisters-in-law, Mary Jane Frederick of Colorado, Barbara Reece of New York and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews and their families. Anthony was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Sebastian.


Anthony was a member of St. Philip Catholic Church and formerly sang in the choir. He enjoyed all music and dancing, especially Polkas, and loved listening to operas. Tony was an avid cyclist and enjoyed nature and riding his bike in the woods, on trails and to other cities. When he was younger, he enjoyed deer hunting and in his later years, he enjoyed talking about hunting, sport and politics. He traveled to New York, Hawaii and abroad to Italy, Sicily, Spain and France. Anthony will be remembered by his family and friends as a fun loving character who made everyone laugh.


Friends will be received 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. Saturday at St. Philip Catholic Church, where a Memorial Mass will be celebrated by Fr. SimonChummar-Manjooran at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 15, 2016. Committal and inurnment will be held at Riverside Cemetery in Albion, MI.




In lieu of flowers, Memorial contributions may be made to Great Lakes Caring Hospice, 900 Cooper St, Jackson, MI 49202 or St. John Evangelist Parish, 1020 Irwin Ave., Albion, MI 49224.
