Arnold L. Pope, 83, a lifelong Battle Creek resident, was welcomed into the arms of his Lord and Savior on Sunday, July 23, 2017.
Arnie was born in Battle Creek, Michigan to Arnold E. and Trevamae (Robbins) Pope. He was a 1952 graduate of Battle Creek Central High School. Arnie honorably served his country sixteen months in Korea as a Field Wireman with the U.S. Army 933rd AAA Battalion Armored Division 508th Detachment. He was employed by Eaton Valve, Oliver Aviation, Eaton Blade, retiring from Hydreco in Galesburg as an inspector, after 33 years.
Arnie was united in marriage to Sandra E. Drenth on August 26, 1961. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sandy, and brother-in-law Oscar Hare. Surviving are his daughter, Shelley L. (Ronald) Pope Hauke of Hudsonville, MI; seven grandchildren; a sister, Virginia Hare of Battle Creek and his very dear friend Ruth Lang of Battle Creek. Arnie was a member of Covenant Hope Church, where he served as a Deacon. He was also a member of VFW # 565 and volunteered for the Salvation Army. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, and U of M football. Arnie will be remembered as a faithful servant of Christ, loving husband, father, grandfather, friend, and brother. He enjoyed being outdoors, and socializing with a flare for humor. Arnie also had a special place in his heart for animals.
Friends will be received 6:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care. Funeral services will be held at Covenant Hope Church 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 27, 2017. Committal and interment will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery.
