Audrey R. Morgan, 96, of Springfield, passed away at Lifespan Good Samaritan Hospice Residence, surrounded and comforted by her loving family, on Thursday, July 31, 2014.

Audrey was born April 26, 1918, in Dayton, Tennessee to John E. and Edith (Schrimpsher) Newby. She grew up in Dayton and came to Battle Creek in 1950.

Audrey married Melvin David Morgan June 2, 1934 in Dayton, Tennessee. Surviving are three sons, Walter R. (Alice) Morgan, Ernest D. (Donna) Morgan, Jess R. (Maxine) Morgan; sister, Clara Hennaut; sister-in-law, Ruth Morgan; daughter-in-law, Sharon Morgan; three special friends, Gale Johnson, Joanna Freeman, Pat Getting; and was blessed with 13 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; one great great-grandchild; and several nieces, nephews and their families. She was preceded in death by her husband Melvin on February 20, 1998; her parents; a son, James A. Morgan; a sister and two brothers, .

Audrey was employed as a cashier at the former S.S. Kresge Store in downtown Battle Creek for 26 years, retiring in 1981. She was a former member of Vine Grove Methodist Church in Dayton. She enjoyed square dancing, arranging flowers, birds, and gospel & country music. Audrey was a selfless and devoted wife, mother and friend, whose life was dedicated to caring for those she loved. She will be remembered by her family and friends for her benevolent generous spirit; boundless sense of humor and infectious laughter, her unassuming strength, infinite compassion and unconditional love will survive as her towering legacy. Words alone cannot articulate the position she held in the lives she touched, how much she was loved or how much she will be missed, but the closest to her can celebrate in having been blessed and honored with the time we had with her.

Friends will be received 6:00-8:00 p.m. Monday at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home. Funeral services will be officiated by Pastor Winford Collins 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, August 5, 2014 at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Floral Lawn Memorial Gardens.
