Bart Alan Norrod

Bart Alan Norrod, age 63, of Battle Creek passed away unexpectedly on December 9, 2021, while helping out at the Battle Creek Air National Guard where he worked at the PX store. He was born in Battle Creek, MI on December 19, 1957, the loving son of Hershell and Jodelle (Greensmith) Norrod and graduated from Battle Creek Central High School with the Class of 1977. Bart worked at the M-66 Bowling Alley before enlisting in the Air Force in 1981 and began active duty in 1982 as a F4 Weapons Control Systems Mechanic within the 31st Tactical Training Wing, Homestead AFB, Florida. After also serving in Colorado, Arizona and Alaska, he retired in 2002 as Tech Sergeant, Section Chief, F-16 AIS from Nellis AFB, Nevada. Shortly after retirement, Bart began working at the PX at the Battle Creek Air National Guard.

Bart was preceded in death by his mother, Jodelle Norrod. He is survived by his father, Hershell, (Kathleen) Norrod of Battle Creek; a brother, Craig (Sue) Norrod of Battle Creek; a step-sister, Theresa (Tony) Payne of Battle Creek; a step-brother, Michael (Jennifer) Thiel of Illinois; a nephew, Cameron Thiel of Illinois; and a niece, Brittany Mai (Tong) of Washington.

Bart made fast friends of the Guard staff and PX co-workers with his chatty personality and big heart. He sometimes also drove the delivery truck between the Battle Creek and Selfridge stores. Bart volunteered his time often to make sure the service men and women got what they needed for weekend training exercises or for their daily duties.

In his earlier years, Bart worked on hot rods and later on he enjoyed studying astronomy especially while stationed in Fairbanks, Alaska. After retiring from the Air Force, he always attended family gatherings and other celebrations with friends, Bart is greatly missed by his many co-workers, friends and family members.

Funeral services with full military honors to celebrate Bart's life will be held 2:00 p.m., Friday, April 15th at the Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta, MI. Arrangements by Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, Battle Creek.
