Bernadetta Marie "Bernie" Case, age 90, went to be with our Lord on Sunday, March 3, 2013. She was born May 18, 1922 in Fremont Michigan, the son of the late Arthur Chrystler and Neva (Zerlaut) Chrystler and married the late Carlson (Casey) Case. She attended Western Michigan University and received her degree in elementary education. While at WMU, she met her future husband who was stationed in Battle Creek at Fort Custer. Casey went to serve in the European theater in World War II and they were married upon his return. Bernie and Casey lived in the Muskegon area where she taught third grade at Jolman School in the Orchard View district for thirty plus years. She loved working with her students and spent many hours during the summer preparing for the next school year. She named her daughter after one of her favorite students. Bernie and Casey moved to Fruitport where they raised their children and enjoyed square dancing, camping, traveling and reading. Bernie moved to Friendship Village in Kalamazoo after her husband's death to be near her children, son Randy Case and Sue (Frost) Case, of Battle Creek, daughter Diane (Case) Berger and Richard Berger of Mattawan. She is survived by three granddaughters, Kristen (Case) and Aaron Prymula, of Byron Center, Rachel (Berger) and Colin Whitehurst of Huntington Indiana, and Sarah Berger, also of Huntington. We would like to thank the staff at Friendship Village for their wonderful care and assistance to Bernie as she progressed from independence through assisted living and to the health center in her final days. A Memorial Tea will be held 10:30-11:30 a.m. Saturday, March 16, 2013 in the Kiva at Friendship Village, 1400 N. Drake Rd., Kalamazoo, MI 49006. Interment for the family will be held at Fruitport Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Friendship Village Employee Fund. Arrangements are by the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home.
