Bernice L. (White) Ferguson, age 93, of Battle Creek passed away Tuesday afternoon, July 5, 2022. She was born in Harrisburg, Arkansas on October 29, 1928, the daughter of Hollie C.E. and Josie M. (Rodgers) White. Bernice grew up in Arkansas, moved to Marshall, Michigan in 1945 and worked at Michigan Bell Telephone Company for many years.
Bernice married Stewart B. Ferguson in 1971; he preceded her in death on January 7, 2004 after more than 33 years of a happy marriage. She is survived by her children, Sharon A. Norton of Jackson and Michael D. (Linda) Chism of South Haven; her grandchildren, Derek (Kate) Chism and Maddi Chism; and two great-granddaughters, Jozlyn and Emilia. Bernice is also survived by her step-daughter, Julia Bennett; her sister, Betty (John) Rowe; and several step grandchildren & great grandchildren, nieces & nephews. She was also preceded in death by her parents; her step-daughter, Delores Davis; and her brother, Verser White.
Bernice was an active member of North Avenue Church of God in Battle Creek. An avid sports enthusiast, she loved playing & watching tennis, playing Bunco with her friends, and spending time with her family.
The family will receive friends 12:00 noon to 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 12th at Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, Battle Creek where services to celebrate her life will begin at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Jeff Eckman, officiating. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of South Central Michigan.
