Bernice Catherine (Williams) Lindsay, 96 of Battle Creek died at Evergreen Manor on Tuesday, April 5, 2016.
Bernice was born January 3, 1920 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Wesley and Jane (Grady) Williams. She grew up in Philadelphia and Battle Creek and attended St. Philip High School. Bernice was employed as a clerk in several retail department stores, including Robinson's and the Federated Department store in Lakeview.
Bernice married Francis J. "Frank" Lindsay on April 22, 1939 in Battle Creek. Sadly she was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Frank, on March 10, 2001. Surviving are a son, John F. (Sandy) Lindsay of Battle Creek; a daughter, Kathy (John) Stanisz of Scotts; two grandsons, David Stanisz of Scotts, MI, Paul (Terri) Nelson of Battle Creek; four granddaughters, Karen (Dustin) Crandall of Battle Creek, Denise (Brian) Rae of Peoria, AZ, Amy (Brent) Dozier of Twin Falls, ID, Nicole (Josh) Key of Southern Pines, NC; four great-grandsons and 1 great granddaughter. In addition to her husband, Bernice was also preceded in death by two sisters, Vivian Wisnie and Margaret Tuttle.
Bernice was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, since 1949, where she was very involved in the Women's Auxiliary of St. Joseph. She was also a member of the Postal Service Auxiliary. She and her husband enjoyed traveling, were avid campers and very involved in the Balloon Festivals. Bernice loved teaching her grandchildren how to cook and play games, especially Skip-Bo, which her family believes she is teaching all the angels in Heaven how to play. She will be remembered as a loving and caring person.
Friends will be received 6:00-7:15 p.m. Thursday at the Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, where the Rosary will be recited at 7:15 p.m. Thursday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph Catholic Church by Fr. John D. Fleckenstein 10:00 a.m. Friday, April 8, 2016. Committal and interment will follow at Ft. Custer National Cemetery.
