Betty A. Islam, 94, of Tucson, Arizona formerly of Battle Creek, Michigan was received by the hands of God and died on Tuesday, May 26, 2026 passing away peacefully at home in Tucson, Arizona surrounded by family.
She was born In Battle Creek, Michigan on August 14, 1931, to Elvina Sigourney and Claire Mayfield Moody and attended Lakeview High School.
Betty was happily united in marriage to Wilbur C. Islam on August 30, 1952, in Battle Creek, Michigan. They were married for 66 loving years. Betty and Wilbur joined the First United Methodist Church in Battle Creek, Michigan on November 28, 1965.
Betty was not only a devoted Wife and Mother, but she excelled at being involved with her community.
She was the Elementary School PTA President, a Cub Scout Den Mother for her son David, a Brownies Troop Leader for her Daughter’s Lona and Beth. She volunteered at the Red Cross and at Burnham Brooks community center.
Betty loved to crotchet, bake homemade cakes and pies, playing her organ and along with her Husband Wilbur they were avid pool/cue stick players at the former Burnham Brook Center in Battle Creek, Michigan they both enjoyed spending quality time with family.
Betty is survived by her three children, her son David (wife-Gidgette) Islam of Tucson, Arizona, her daughter Lona (husband-Philip) Courtright of Hastings, Michigan, and her daughter Beth (husband-Dan) Pittenger of Lakeland, Florida; her nine grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren, and six great-great grandchildren.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents (Elvina Sigourney and Claire Mayfield Moody), her brother (Robert Moody), her sister (Sharon Moody) and her loving husband (Wilbur C. Islam) who passed away in twenty-nineteen.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, June 17th 2026 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, 105 Capital Avenue North East Battle Creek, Michigan 49017. Funeral services to celebrate Betty's life will be Thursday, June 18th 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 111 E Michigan Avenue Battle Creek, MI 49014, officiated by Rev. David Elmore.
The internment will follow the Church service at Floral Lawn Memorial Gardens, 1490 East Michigan Avenue Battle Creek, Michigan 49014.
