Betty "Jane" Adams, 89, of Battle Creek died on Friday, May 17, 2013 at Borgess Medical Center.
Jane was born August 27, 1923 in Battle Creek, Michigan to George and Mary (Uttenweiler) Cox. She grew up in Battle Creek and attended Battle Creek Central High School. During WWII Jane was employed at the Post office. She was later employed at Robinson's Department Store in downtown Battle Creek. Jane was a weekend supervisor at the former Northside Manor. She was employed at a women's boutique in Lakeview; cared for the elderly; and watched people's homes and pets when they were away.
Jane was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Gail Adams in 1963. Surviving are her niece, Michele Drake of San Jose, CA; her nephew, Jack Cox of Battle Creek and many friends, including her close friends, Jane Chappell and Vicki Younglove. Jane was also preceded in death by her sister, Ruth Drake and brother, Harry Cox.
Jane was an avid reader, enjoyed traveling, doing crossword puzzles and did chair exercises three times a week at Burnham Brook. She was a former member of The Women's League. She formerly attended Unity Church and the Church of Religious Science.
Friends will be received at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home 6:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 21, 2013. Jane's remains will be placed next to her husband at Oak Hill Cemetery in Battle Creek.
