Betty Jean (Brown) Knight, 94, a lifelong Battle Creek resident died peacefully at Heritage Assisted Living.
Betty was born April 26, 1927 in Battle Creek, Michigan the daughter of Clayman Curtis and Helen G. (Voyce) Brown. She attended Battle Creek Central High School. She spent most of her life as a devoted wife, mother and grandmother caring for her family. She worked in the family business, Knight's Inc., a TV, Appliance and Furniture Center. Betty was also previously employed at the Kellogg Company, Weston Biscuit Company and Oliver Farm Tractors.
Betty Jean Brown married George Clinton Knight, II on August 27, 1944 in Battle Creek. Betty was preceded in death by her husband George on December 5, 2004. Surviving Thomas A. (Joyce) Knight of East Leroy, MI; daughter, Patricia L. (Jeffrey) Augustyn of Highland, MI; five grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews, cousins and their families. In addition to her husband, Betty was also preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Curtis L. Brown.
Betty was a member of Lakeview Baptist Church, was the 1957 president of the Battle Creek Jaycees Ladies' Auxiliary, a Red Cross Grey Lady, volunteered at Coburn School and the former Community Hospital. She enjoyed golfing and was a longtime member of Riverside Country Club. She enjoyed traveling with George and her family. Her hobbies included golf, square dancing and playing Bridge. Betty will be remembered as a kind, gentle and caring person to all.
A service to celebrate Betty's life will be officiated by Pastor Paul Prochazka, from Lakeview Baptist Church, at Fort Custer National Cemetery 11:30 a.m. Thursday, October 14, 2021.
