Betty J. (Mackinder) Shippy, 91, passed away at The Oaks at NorthPointe Woods on Saturday, December 27, 2014.  She was born December 4, 1923 in Battle Creek to Frank and Gertrude (McIntyre) Mackinder.  Betty grew up in Battle Creek and graduated from Battle Creek Central High School.  She was married to William H. "Pete" Shippy and together they had six children.  She was employed by the Kellogg Company in the Employee Benefits Department, retiring in 1991.  Betty is survived by daughters, Sue (Charley) McIntyre of Summerfield, FL, Mary (Eric) Fletcher of Battle Creek and Debbie (Nick) Carcioppolo of Temecula, CA; sons, Bill (Julie) Shippy of Charlevoix, MI and Jim Shippy of Lake Worth, FL; 13 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.  She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Jane E. "Janey" (Shippy) Gardner; sisters, Mary White, Agnes Smith and Clarabelle Oversmith; and brothers, Marvin, Frank Jr. and Richard.
Betty was a devoted mother with a beautiful loving spirit who put her children and grandchildren first.  She enjoyed playing bridge, oil painting, reading, golf, bowling and spending time with her many friends. Betty volunteered at the hospital for many years and was a member of St Philip Catholic Church.
Friends will be received at a visitation 12:00 noon-12:55 p.m. Friday, January 2, 2015 at St. Philip Catholic Church, 92 Capital Avenue N.E., Battle Creek, MI 49017.  Following the visitation, a Memorial Mass will be celebrated by Fr. Francis Marotti at the church at 1:00.  Inurnment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
