Beverly Ann (Borden) Frey

August 25, 1930 — August 29, 2021

Beverly Ann (Borden) Frey peacefully passed away August 29, 2021, a few days after her 91st birthday. She was born August 25, 1930, in Windsor, Ontario, Canada, to Lang E. and Gertrude (Andrew) Borden. Not long thereafter, the family moved across the river to Detroit, where Bev grew up and graduated from Detroit Southeastern High School, Class of 1948.

Bev graduated from Michigan State College (now University) in 1952 with a degree in Home Economics. There she met the love of her life, Louis H. Frey. They were married September 12, 1953, at Christ Methodist Church in Detroit. For their entire married life of nearly 68 years, Bev and Lou resided in Battle Creek.

Over the years, Bev was involved in the American Association for University Women, the MSU Alumnae Club, and Purdy School Parent Teacher Association. She was a Girl Scout leader, a Camp Fire Girls leader, a Red Cross volunteer, a Battle Creek Health System Auxilian, and a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church.

A skilled seamstress, Bev made many of her children's clothes and later enjoyed quilting. She loved scouring antiques markets for egg cups and amassed a remarkable collection. She and Lou remained avid MSU fans and often traveled to East Lansing and other Big Ten towns for football and basketball games. They enjoyed birding, Elderhostel adventures, and other travels, too, especially their time on Lake Macatawa in Holland, Michigan.

Beverly will be missed by her husband, Louis; daughters Luanne (Mark Lukow) Frey of Racine, Wisconsin, and Cheryl (David) Martin of Kalamazoo; grandchildren Brent Martin, Kyle Martin, Meredith (Nat Steinsultz) Lukow, and Nathan (Katharina Kant) Lukow; and great-granddaughter Parker Martin. She was preceded in death by her son, Thomas Frey, in 1988; and her brothers, Douglas Borden and Donald Borden.

Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, private services will be held. Condolences may be sent in care of Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home.

If you would like to make a donation in Beverly's memory, please consider the Special Music Fund at First Presbyterian Church, Battle Creek, the Battle Creek Symphony, or a charity of your choice.

Arrangements by Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, Battle Creek. Personal messages for the family and/or favorite memories of Beverly may be placed at www.farleyestesdowdle.com.
