Beverly Elaine (Mckellar) Hendricks

March 2, 1937 — August 12, 2018

Beverly Elaine (McKellar) Hendricks, 81 of Battle Creek and formerly of Saginaw died with her family at her side, at Borgess Medical Center on August 12, 2018.

Beverly was born in 1937 in Saginaw, Michigan the daughter of Alvin and Dorothy (Zimmerman) McKellar. She graduated Saginaw High School in 1955 and went on to earn a Bachelor's Degree in Education from Central Michigan University and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Delta College. After working several years as a surgical nurse, Beverly used the combination of her two degrees to become a Diabetic Educator. She retired in 2004 from Covenant Health Care in Saginaw.

Beverly was united in marriage to Herman Hendricks on September 9, 1961 at the Sheridan Avenue Methodist Church in Saginaw, MI. Surviving are her husband, Herman; son, Marc (Shirley) Hendricks of Muskegon, MI; daughter, Suzanne (Jeff) Hendricks-Celuch of Mason, OH; three grandsons, Dennis Hendricks, Ethan Devyak, Elijah Devyak; two sisters, Dawn (Mike) Sickles of Saginaw, MI, Glenda (Mike) Brick of Rose City, MI; her mother who raised Beverly since she was a child, Virginia McKellar of Rose City, MI; and by several nieces, nephews, cousins and their families. Beverly was preceded in death by her birth mother, Dorothy Zimmerman; her father, Alvin McKellar; and by siblings, Delbert McKellar, Sherry (McKellar) Walton and Dennis McKellar who died in service to his country.

Beverly was formerly a member of Community Christian Reformed Church and Hopevale Baptist Church in Saginaw. After retiring, Beverly and Herman moved to Battle Creek to help care for and raise their grandsons. She loved spending time with her family and did her best to plan family gatherings when everyone could be included. She practiced what she preached and took daily walks and formerly enjoyed biking, cross-country skiing, and cross-stitching. Beverly will be remembered by her family as a loving spouse, very proud mother and grandmother, and someone who always put the needs and welfare of others ahead of her own.

Friends will be received 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon Saturday, at Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, where a funeral service to celebrate Beverly's life will be held 12:00 noon Saturday, August 18, 2018.

Memorial contributions in memory of Beverly may be made to The Charitable Union, 85 Calhoun Street, Battle Creek, MI 49017.
