Blondell Greer

June 21, 1922 — November 5, 2019

Blondell Greer, went to be with her Lord and Savior early on Tuesday, November 5, 2019 in Lansing, Michigan, after 97 years of abundant life.

Blondell, "Blondie", as many affectionately called her, was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She was born June 21, 1922 in Weakley County, Tennessee, one of eleven children of Marion Thomas (Tom) Roberts and Iva Gertrude (Girty) Roberts.

In 1942, Blondell began working for the County Department of Agriculture in Dresden, TN as a bookkeeper. Later that same year, she worked as a floor supervisor in an egg plant in McKenzie, TN, where they made powdered eggs for WWII troops.

After moving from Tennessee to Lansing, Michigan, she worked for Arbaugh's as a cashier, bookkeeper, and payroll manager until 1949. In 1959, Blondell went to work as a cashier for Kroger in Battle Creek, MI and retired in 1978 after 19 years of customer service.

She married Albert Lyndell Greer in 1942 on Christmas Day and they celebrated 63 years of marriage until his passing in June of 2005. She gave birth to Barbara Joan (Shedd) in November of 1949 and Jacquelyn Blondell (Bass) in December of 1952.

Throughout her life she actively supported husband, Albert, a bi-vocational pastor, in church work for the Southern Baptist Convention in West Michigan. Together they were church planters, supported missions work and bible teaching in many congregations throughout the region.

Blondell sang in church choir and was often featured as a soloist and member of duets and quartets. She led the Woman's Missionary Union, taught Vacation Bible School, Sunday school class for all age groups and volunteered in the nursery. She was an amazing, consistent example of a Godly woman and her Christian values were evident to all who knew and loved her.

Many thanks to all staff members at the Heritage Assisted Living in Battle Creek and at her final home at the Bickford Assisted Living in West Lansing, as well as her encouraging and kind hospice caregivers from Heart to Heart.

Blondell is survived by her daughter; Jackie Bass; granddaughters, JoDee (Patrick) Rolfe and Julia Marsh; grandsons, Bert Lynn Shedd and David Michael Shedd; great-granddaughter, Natalie Rolfe; sons-in-law, Bert J. (Connie) Shedd and David Lanckton; numerous nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Barbara; parents; and siblings.
