Bonnie E. Huibregtse, 74, of Battle Creek, went to be with her Lord and Savior January 8, 2016. Bonnie was born October 22, 1941 in Detroit to Richard and Eleanor (Seamans) Barzler. She graduated from the University of Michigan in 1963 with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree. She worked for both the former Leila and Community Hospitals. For the majority of her nursing career, she worked as a visiting nurse for the Visiting Nurse Service (later Lifespan).
Bonnie married the love of her life, Wesley Huibregtse, on August 15, 1964. The couple was blessed with 51 years of marriage. Bonnie enjoyed collecting antiques and figurines, flea marketing, home remodeling, and traveling across North America. She also took an extended trip to Europe. She was a member of Covenant Hope Church (formerly Battle Creek Christian Reformed Church) for over 50 years. She was a deacon, taught adult Bible study classes, sang in the choir, and organized and coordinated a monthly food collection program for the Northeast Capital Food Pantry.
Bonnie loved her nursing career, retiring at age 72, but most of all, she loved spending time with her family. She was a loving caregiver to her mother, Eleanor. In her retirement years, she enjoyed volunteering her time at the Battle Creek VA Medical Center, the Bibles for Missions Thrift Center, and the Food Pantry.
Bonnie is survived by her husband, Wesley; three children: Scott Huibregtse; David (Lorie) Huibregtse, grandchild Tony Hernandez; and Chris (Jim) Sabatowski, grandchildren Matthew, Andrew and Nate Sabatowski; her mother, Eleanor Barzler Weber; four siblings: Ann (Louis) Klauder, Mary (Robert) Peregoy, Martha (Thomas) Schweitzer, and James (Laura) Barzler; several nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws.
Bonnie was preceded in death by her father, Richard.
As per Bonnie's request, her remains have been donated to the University of Michigan Anatomical Donation Program.
