Bruce H. Thompson, age 91 of Richland passed away peacefully on Friday afternoon, October 6, 2023 at Kairos Dwelling in Kalamazoo. Bruce was born in Story City, Iowa on November 12, 1931, the son of Milton H. and Maude (Batman) Thompson and faithfully served his country as a member of the United States Army during the Korean War.
Bruce married the "Love of His Life", Anne Elizabeth Sorlie in Kalamazoo on May 8, 1971; she sadly preceded him in death on November 29, 2018. He is survived by his son, Henry A. Thompson of Jackson; his daughter, Anne Leslie (Adam Grath) Thompson of Minnesota; his granddaughter, Alexa Thompson; and his niece, Marybeth (Steven) Lytle. Bruce was also preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Barbara Ann Henryson.
Bruce personified joy. His smile lit up a room, his laugh was infectious and immediately recognizable. To think of him, makes one smile. He loved to entertain and one of his true joys was taking family and friends for a tour of the lake on the “toonie”. He would say “why do I need to go on vacation, I live on vacation”. Bruce lived life loud, on his terms and well.
At Bruce’s request, cremation has taken place and no services are being planned at this time. Memorials directed to Centrica Care Navigators (Hospice), 7100 Stadium Drive, Kalamazoo, MI 49009, would be appreciated. Arrangements by the Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, Richland Chapel. Personal messages for the family and/or favorite memories of Bruce may be placed here at www.farleyestesdowdle.com.
