Carl David "Dave" Middleton

June 27, 1940 — June 7, 2020

Carl David "Dave" Middleton, age 79, of Battle Creek died Sunday, June 7, 2020 at Borgess Hospital in Kalamazoo. He was born in Kokomo, Indiana on June 27, 1940, the son of C. Darwin and Francis (Pitman) Middleton and graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in Baytown, Texas. After high school Dave joined the United States Air Force, serving a year in Greenland. After moving to Michigan, Dave graduated from Kellogg Community College and Western Michigan University.

Dave was employed at Sears Roebuck for many years. He left there to work at the Battle Creek Federal Center, where he retired as Branch Chief of DLIS.

Dave married Diane Deaton in May of 1967; she survives. They recently celebrated their 53rd Wedding Anniversary. He is also survived by his children, Jana Middleton of California and Deborah Sparagna of Portland, Michigan; two grandchildren, Braenic Barker of Battle Creek and Cinnia Barker of Portland, Michigan; a nephew, Bob Deaton of Wayland; and last but not least his favorite cat, Beevis.

Dave loved watching sports and Western movies on TV and enjoyed his many friends at the casino.

A graveside service with military honors to celebrate Dave's life will be held 1:00 p.m., Friday, June 19th at the Battle Creek Memorial Park Cemetery with Rev. James M. Gysel, officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the U.S.O. would be appreciated. Arrangements by Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, Battle Creek.
