Carl Raymond Miller

Carl Raymond Miller, age 78, of Battle Creek passed away peacefully on Monday afternoon, October 3, 2016 at the Bronson at Home Hospice Residence. He was born in Battle Creek on October 13, 1937, the loving son of Carl A. and Edna M. (Paris) Miller. Carl graduated from Lakeview High School with the Class of 1955, and furthered his education, graduating from the Ferris State Institute. Carl owned and operated the family business, Michigan Woodwork & Specialties Company with his brother Max, until his retirement in 2005.

Carl married the "Love of His Life", Jill A. Evans at the First Congregational Church of Battle Creek on July 18, 1959. He is survived by his wife of more than 57 years, Jill; his children, Carl W. (Mike Thompson) Miller of Fennville, Sara L. Miller of East Lansing, and Mark A. (Tracy) Miller of Battle Creek; his 2 grandchildren, Connor Miller, Caitlyn Miller, both of Battle Creek, and his sister, Nancy Kearn of Battle Creek. Carl was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Marilyn Simonds, and his brother, Max Miller.

Carl was a longtime member of the Battle Creek Host Lions Club, a past-president of the Battle Creek Hunt Club, the Michigan Architectural Institute, the Goguac Yacht Club, the Battle Creek Country Club, and was a member of the Board of Directors for the Cheff Foundation when it was established, and continued to serve for the next 20 years. Carl had a passion for tennis and golf. He especially enjoyed his 20 golf buddies that played various courses around the Battle Creek area. His grandchildren, Connor and Caitlyn were the "Apple of His Eye", and he loved going to their sporting events and spending time with his family.

The family will receive friends 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., Monday, October 10th at Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, Battle Creek where funeral services to celebrate Carl's life will be held 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 11th.
