Carlene Kay Ketchum

Carlene Kay (Elbert) Ketchum went to her eternal heavenly home on January 19, 2021 at the age of 84. She was born in Saginaw, Michigan on February 15, 1936 to Carl and Edna (Lash) Elbert.

Carlene graduated from Saginaw High School where she met James (Jim) Alger McCracken in 9th grade. She and Jim were married on September 21, 1954 and had three beautiful daughters Pamela, Linda, and Jill. The family moved to Drummond Island, Michigan in 1966, where Carlene and Jim owned and operated McCracken's Laundry Service. The girls have fond memories of singing with their Mom as they cleaned, ironed, and folded laundry for the island school, inns, and businesses.

In 1976, the family moved to Owosso, Michigan where she and Jim eventually divorced. While working for Lila Lane, Carlene met Gordon Stanley (Stan) Ketchum and the two married on June 7, 1985. Carlene attended Lansing Community College and received her Associate degree in nursing in August of 1984.

Carlene and Stan lived in Chesaning, Michigan and attended Good News Fellowship church in Owosso. The couple spent their winter retirement years in Florida and spending time with family in Michigan during the summer.

Carlene is preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Edna Elbert, James McCracken, and Stan Ketchum. She is survived by her loving daughters, Pamela (Lyle) Houpt, Linda (Jim) Richards, Jill (Dwayne) Long; step-children, Karen (George) Kreger, Keith (Margaret) Ketchum, Carlene (Nancy) Ketchum, Gordon Ketchum (Dan Taylor), Kurt Ketchum. Grandchildren, Dwayne Long, Erin (Bill) Schmitz, Adam (Lacey) Long, Ashley (Jesse) Blekking, Burt Kreger, Cody Ketchum, Angela Lewis, James Richards; and great-grandchildren, Kali, Addison, Ellis, Rileigh, Roen, AJ, Issac, Kolten, Cruz, Caleb, Kaitlin, Paige and Layn.

A memorial service to celebrate Carlene's life will be held on July 3, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, 105 Capital Ave NE, Battle Creek, MI 49017.
