Carol M. (Bliss) Ludwa, 90, of Battle Creek died at the Legacy at the Oaks on Monday, February 9, 2015.
Carol was born May 14, 1924 in Albion, Michigan to Leroy and Edith C. (McLane) Bliss. She attended Billinghurst School, a one room school, was a 1942 graduate of Marshall High School and received a secretarial degree from Cleary Business School in Ypsilanti. Carol was employed as a secretary in Marshall and then for the Kellogg Company 1943-1950 and 1953-1974.
Carol was previously married to Lawrence DeBow, Lawrence Nichols and Phillip Ogden. Surviving are her husband, Walter Ludwa; son, Laurence (fiancé Diane Matthews) DeBow of Traverse City, MI; three granddaughters; six great grandchildren; four stepdaughters, Sandra (Dave) DeBoer of Walnut Creek, CA, Amy Giroux of Grand Haven, Mary Ann (Dan) Rebant of Kansas City, and Barbara (Jon) Miller of Battle Creek;
a sister, Edith (Stanley) Dziurkiewicz of Albion, MI; 15 step-grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Carol was preceded in death by a stepson, Ronald Ludwa on February 4, 2015; her parents; two brothers, Glen Bliss, Harold Bliss and a sister, Josephine Bliss.
Carol was an active member of Westlake Presbyterian Church, helping the Church in many ways from helping to clean the kitchen, doing things in the background for various events and being involved in collecting food for the Westlake Food pantry, and serving as Treasurer of the Naomi Ruth Circle (Bible Study and Fellowship group) for many years. She was an Ordained Deacon and was named Westlake Woman of the Year in 2010. She enjoyed crafts, golfing and her home. Carol will be remembered for her kindness and positive cheerful attitude.
Friends will be received 4:00-6:00 p.m. Friday at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home. Funeral services will be officiated by Rev. Kate Johnston at the funeral home 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 14, 2015.
