Carol Ann Rasmussen, 82, entered into eternal rest on April 4, 2025.
Born in 1942, Carol’s early life was marked by hardship, loss, and adversity. She was born out of wedlock and never knew her father as a father—believing for much of her life that he was her uncle. She endured abuse and, as a young woman, was placed in a jail for juveniles.
At the time, the newspaper article described her as “a wild tiger trying to get out of a cage”—a reflection of her fierce spirit and drive for freedom. During her time in the jail for juveniles she was put into “the black hole”—a term used for solitary confinement—and she escaped. She lived life on the edge as a bookie and even escaped jail more than once. She was married and divorced twice and, through all the twists and turns, became the devoted mother of five children.
But Carol’s story wasn’t defined by where it began—it was transformed by where she chose to go. Later in life, she encountered the love and grace of God and gave her life fully to Him. Though she didn’t grow up knowing Him, her faith became her foundation. Her relationship with Jesus and the Holy Spirit was deeply personal. She often reminded others, “Just ask Jesus to help you,” “Ask the Holy Spirit to help you,” and “Just pray and go.”
Carol devoted her life to helping others. She worked as a preschool director and ran a daycare, sharing her heart and creativity with countless children. She had a special love for both the elderly and the young. Her hobbies included painting and crafts, which she used to bring beauty and joy into the world.
She was loving, kind, fun, serious, and deeply caring. Despite the storms she weathered, she became a steady, nurturing presence for her family and everyone she met.
Carol is survived by her children: Scott (Christine), Mark, and Cathy, who is widowed. She was preceded in death by her beloved sons, Darrell and Brian, and is also lovingly remembered by their wives, Diane and Kim. She was a proud grandmother to 18 grandchildren and a great-grandmother to 21.
Her life is a powerful testimony of redemption, strength, and unshakable faith. She will be remembered for her courage, her humor, her wisdom, and her enduring love for God and others.
A celebration of life will be held this Friday, April 11, 2025, at Lighthouse Baptist Church (12220 Cressey Rd., Plainwell, MI 49080), officiated by Pastor Steve Smail. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., followed by the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Interment will take place immediately after the service, with a luncheon to follow.
