Carole Ann (Norton) Skalka, 85, passed away in Battle Creek, MI Sunday, November 23, 2025, at Heritage Assisted Living. Carole was born on June 27, 1940, in Hammond, Indiana to Lester and Lena (Pepin) Norton. Carole graduated from All Saints School, Hammond, IN, Hammond High School and attended Indiana University. She taught briefly at St. Bridget School in Hobart, IN and was an Executive Assistant in the Purchasing Department at Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago, IL before marrying Clemens John Skalka on August 20, 1960, in Hammond, IN. Clem and Carole had one son, Steven Charles Skalka.
After living for thirty-three years in Simsbury, CT, Clem and Carole retired and moved to Battle Creek, MI in 2006 to be closer to Steve, his wife Stacy, and two grandchildren Quinn and Emily. Carole was an avid sports fan who enjoyed nothing more than watching Steve play baseball, Quinn play hockey, and Emily play volleyball. She was also a big Larry Bird fan. She was predeceased by her husband, Clem January 9, 2025; and an older brother Ronald.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Christopher Ankley 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 10, 2025, in the chapel at St. Joseph Parish Center, 63 North 24th St., Battle Creek, MI 49015. A private burial service will be held at Simsbury Cemetery, Simsbury, CT.
In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital or EWTN television network. Arrangements are by Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Cremation Preneed Care. Personal messages for Carole’s family may be placed at www.farleyestesdowdle.com.
