Caroline Ruth (Bryner) Kornoelje

Caroline Kornoelje, 93 of Battle Creek went home to be with her Lord after being loved and cared for at Glenn Arbor Hospice Residence with her family at her side, on Thursday, January 30, 2020.

She was born September 27, 1926 in Elkhart, Indiana the daughter of Ned and Ruth (Reith) Bryner. Caroline grew up in Elkhart and was a 1945 graduate of Elkhart High School and attended college for two years. She was employed in retail sales for Fashion Bug, J.C. Penney Co. and at K-Mart Corp. Caroline also loved and cared for people in their homes and in foster care homes.

Caroline married James Kornoelje on October 31, 1994 in Battle Creek after a long relationship. Surviving are her husband, Jim; two sons, Harold Goff of North Dakota, Mark Goff of Battle Creek; a stepson, Michael Kornoelje of Battle Creek; six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Caroline was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Isabel Freeman and Catherine Bryner; and one brother, Ned Bryner, Jr.

Caroline was a member of Grace Fellowship Baptist Church. She enjoyed watching sports; and she volunteered and attended sporting events in Battle Creek for many years. Caroline received the Wall of Fame Award with her husband, Jim from the Battle Creek Amateur Sports Association.

Caroline enjoyed flower gardening, spending holidays with her family and was a good cook. She won first prize in a Fashion Bug Sales Contest and thus in 1990 appeared on the former Santa Barbara Soap Opera. She will be remembered as a kind, loving person, with a sense of humor, always caring for, helping, and listening to others.

Friends will be received 2:00-4:00 & 6:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, February 7th at Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care. A service to celebrate Caroline's life will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February 8, 2020 at Grace Fellowship Baptist Church. Inurnment will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery.
