Devoted to her family, grounded in faith, and remembered by those who knew her.
Carolyn Joan (Wofford) Miller, 83, of Battle Creek, Michigan, passed away on March 3, 2026, just weeks before her 84th birthday. She was born April 1, 1942, in Battle Creek, Michigan, and was raised by Charles McGuire and Alice (Babcock) McGuire. She graduated from Battle Creek Central High School in 1960. In December 1960, she married John D. Miller in Battle Creek. They shared nearly 59 years of marriage before his passing in 2019.
During her husband’s military career, Carolyn lived in several places throughout the United States and abroad before eventually returning to Battle Creek. Wherever they lived, she worked to create a warm and stable home for her children and family.
Carolyn worked briefly at the VA Medical Center and later at the snack bar at Nottkes Bowling Center. She also worked alongside her husband at American Greetings. She enjoyed bowling and spent time coaching youth bowlers, sharing her enthusiasm for the sport and encouraging younger players.
Carolyn remained connected to her faith community as a committed soldier of The Salvation Army. She also participated in the Salvation Army Women’s League and remained active in church fellowship for many years.
In later years, Carolyn enjoyed baking and sharing food with family members, neighbors, and members of her church community. She often welcomed relatives into her home when they needed a place to stay or support during challenging times. She also adored her faithful companion dog, Gracie, who brought her comfort and companionship in her later years.
Carolyn is survived by her children Kathy (Dave) Dailey, John Summers-Miller (Tracy), and Mindi Krill (Jimmy); her brother Howard L. Wofford; ten grandchildren—Daniel Burkhart, David Burkhart, Matt Walker, Michael Dunmire, Brandy Lagunes, Amy Christiansen, Ryan Dunmire, Kasandra Summers-Miller, Chazz Dailey, and Brandon Summers-Miller—and 16 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband John D. Miller (2019); her daughter Tami-Jo (2021); her brother Jim Wofford (2017); her infant brother Wayne Babcock (1941); and her parents Charles McGuire and Alice (Babcock) McGuire.
Her life remained closely connected to her family and the Battle Creek community where she spent many of her years.
Carolyn will be remembered by her family and those who knew her throughout the years.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 10, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at The Salvation Army in Battle Creek, Michigan. She will be interred with her husband, John D. Miller, at Fort Custer National Cemetery, followed by a luncheon at The Salvation Army. Personal messages for the family can be placed here at www.farleyestesdowdle.com
