Charlene Marie Edwards, age 68, was born on July 13, 1957, in Highland Park, Michigan, and passed away peacefully on March 8, 2026, in West Bloomfield, Michigan.
In her younger years, Charlene enjoyed wrestling and roller derby, reflecting her energetic and spirited nature. She attended Redford High School and later pursued cosmetology studies at Walled Lake Western High School.
A lifelong member of The Salvation Army Church, Charlene dedicated much of her time to serving others. She volunteered in numerous capacities at church, taught Bird Study at Echo Grove Summer Camp, and coached floor hockey.Charlene found joy in simple pleasures such as pottery, watching PBS television, cooking, and organizing family gatherings, always bringing people together with warmth and care. She also worked as a bus driver for Livonia Public Schools, where she touched many lives through her kindness and dedication.
Charlene was preceded in death by her beloved grandparents and her mother, Francis (Heilman) Edwards. She is lovingly remembered by her father, James Robert Edwards; her son, Christopher James Edwards; her daughter, Crystal Marie (John) Matthews; her cherished grandchildren, Isabella and David; her brother, Robert James (Doris) Edwards; her nephew, Josiah James Edwards; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins who will miss her dearly.
She will be remembered most for her compassion, her willingness to help those less fortunate, and her genuine kindness toward everyone she encountered—even strangers.
A Memorial Service will be held in her honor on May 16, 2026, at The Salvation Army Church, 27500 Shiawassee St, Farmington Hills, MI 48336. Family Hour will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., followed by the service from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., and a potluck gathering at 12:00 p.m.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her honor to The Salvation Army Church or PBS television station.
Charlene often reminded those around her that “God is so good,” a reflection of the deep faith that guided her life.
Her legacy of love, service, and compassion will live on in all who knew her.
