Charles E. Babbitt

Charles E. Babbitt, age 53, of Battle Creek passed away Thursday afternoon April 23, 2015 at the Borgess Medical Center, Kalamazoo. He was born in Battle Creek on May 3, 1961, the loving son of Bernard Edward and Corene Jean "Corky" (Hull) Babbitt. Charles dedicated more than 35 years of faithful service with the Alro Steel Corporation in Battle Creek where he was currently employed as a Lead Warehouseman.

Charles married Rebecca L. "Becky" Sullivan on May 11, 2013 at their home, under the beautiful apple tree that his father had planted; she survives. He is also survived by his children, Derek Babbitt, Sarah Babbitt, Nathan Feight, Tanya Feight, Bobby Feight and Troy Feight II.; his granddaughters, Kailey & Aidianna Feight; his brothers, Joseph Anthony Valente, John James Valente, Robert Eugene (Kim) Babbitt; his sisters, Cynthia Ann "Cindy" Colby, Deborah Joan Simpson, and several nieces & nephews. Charles was sadly preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Scott Thomas Babbitt.

A true outdoorsman, Charles loved fishing, hunting, gardening and spent many hours teaching the boys about his love for each. Charles also enjoyed working and making things with his hands, whether out of wood or steel. Family was everything to Charles and he loved spending time with all of his family, but most especially his children, baby granddaughters, nieces & nephews as well as his extended Alro family. Charles had truly hoped to finish building Becky's "Dream House", something his son's and nephews will complete in his memory.

The family will receive friends "casually" (please wear overalls if you have them) from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., Sunday, April 26, 2015 at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home, Battle Creek where funeral services to celebrate his life will be held 3:00 p.m., Monday, April 27, 2015. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you please consider making donations to Gift of Life Michigan or the Bronson at Home Good Samaritan Hospice Residence.
