Charles A. "Charlie" Dinkins, 78, of Battle Creek, died October 8, 2021. Charlie was born April 27, 1943 in Dayton, TN to Robert and Rosabelle (Brady) Dinkins. Charlie studied turf management at Michigan State University and was the superintendent/course manager at Binder Park Golf Course for 36 years, retiring in 2000.
Charlie married the former Susan Johnson on October 19, 1968, who survives. Charlie is also survived by his daughter, Christina (Todd) Johnson; four grandchildren, Lexi (Alex) Shelton, Trevor Johnson, Kendall Latshaw and Alex Johnson; a sister, Sharon Dinkins, and a brother, Bill Dinkins. Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Bobby Dinkins.
Charlie enjoyed golfing, traveling with his wife, reading about the Civil War and the Wild West, watching Georgia Bulldog football, and making ice cream runs in his 1963 Falcon convertible. To Charlie, family meant everything. He never missed an event or game for his grandchildren. His second family were the people at Binder Park Golf Course, both coworkers and golfers alike. He was proud of his role in the construction to expand the course from 18 to 27-holes, and in starting "Charlie's League" on Tuesday nights so many years ago.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, October 13, 2021 at the Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care from 4:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., with a Parish Rosary at 6:30 p.m. A Funeral Mass to celebrate Charlie's life will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday, October 14 at St. Philip Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Floral Lawn Memorial Gardens. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan or The Haven of Rest Ministries.
