Charles K. “Chuck” Hill, 87, of Battle Creek, passed away Wednesday, January 23, 2013 at his home. He was born December 22, 1925 in Howard City, Michigan. Chuck was the son of Melvin and Reba (Groendale) Hill. Chuck joined the US Army during World War II and served in the European Theater. Chuck worked in production for the US Register Company for 23 years, retiring in 1973. He was the owner and operator of Hill’s Heating & Cooling Company in Battle Creek from 1976 until his recent parting. Chuck enjoyed spending time with his family, helping others and most of all shopping at Goodwill.

Charles married Edna O’Dell which ended in divorce and he then married Beverly Jo (Bockmier) Hill who preceded him in death in 2001. He was also preceded in death by a step-daughter; a grandchild; three brothers and two sisters. He is survived by two daughters, Carol J. Lake and Judy D. Davis both of Battle Creek; five sons, Richard A., Kenneth C., Jeff T., Scott E. and David L. Hill all of Battle Creek; a step-son, Carl Leach; 21 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.

A memorial service to celebrate Chuck’s life will be held at 1:30 PM Tuesday, January 29, 2013, at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home. Interment will follow at 2:30 pm at Ft. Custer National Cemetery with full Military Honors. Friends who wish may make memorial contributions to the ALS Association Michigan Chapter 678 Front St., Suite 159 Grand Rapids, MI 49504 to help those with Lou Gehrig’s Disease.
