Charles Richard "Dick" Coon

Dick Coon died suddenly on Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at home recovering from recent heart surgery. He was born March 11, 1943 in Battle Creek to Charles E. and Betty J. (Buchfink) Coon. Dick graduated from Lakeview High School and then attended KCC. Dick retired in 2011 after devoting 47 years to running and operating his family business of Lakeview Body Shop.

Dick was an avid outdoorsman who thoroughly enjoyed hunting, fishing with Jerry Bailey and John Zalner, golfing at Riverside Country Club where he and his wife were long-time members, and spending time with his special friends at "Friends". If not out with family and friends, Dick could be found working in his well-manicured yard or his immaculate garage at home. Above all, Dick loved spending time with family especially his pride and joy, his grandchildren. Dick was married to the love of his life, Marta Coon and they spent 28 wonderful years together.

Dick is survived by his wife, Helen Marta Coon; his son, Richard (Paula) Coon of Sycamore, IL and their children, Lauren, Megan, and Brandon; his son, Mathew Coon of Kalamazoo; his step-daughter, Lori Olsen of Battle Creek and her children, Adam Hollinger and Adrianna Hollinger; and his step-daughter, Julie (Erik) Ruger of Battle Creek and their children, Breh and Emmy; his sister, Gail Schley of Battle Creek; and nephew, Aaron (Kathy) Schley of Battle Creek.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, June 15, 2014 from 5-7 PM at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home where funeral services to celebrate Dick's life will be held 11:00 AM, Monday, June 16, 2014, officiated by the Rev. Louis Halsey. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make memorial contributions are asked to consider the American Heart Association or the First Tee of Battle Creek.
