Charlotte R.(Forsythe) Sawyer of Pennfield Township, Battle Creek, MI
Char, age 85, joined her beloved husband, Earl on Indian Lake Monday, March 3, 2014 at Whispering Woods of Grand Rapids, MI.
Char, the daughter of Clarence and Beulah (Strassel) Forsythe, was born on October 12, 1928 in Battle Creek; was a lifelong resident and a 1946 graduate of Battle Creek Central High School, where she was in charge for many years of the Alumni Reunions. She retired in 1989 as Personnel Manager for Sears Roebuck Company in Battle Creek after 43 years of faithful service. Char was a member of the Pennfield Presbyterian Church; was President of its Women's Association and served as a Deacon. She enjoyed gardening, piano playing and shopping, but her true passion in life was her family, especially her grandchildren.
Char married the love of her life, Earl A. Sawyer in Battle Creek on August 14, 1954 and he sadly preceded her in death on May 2, 1982. Surviving are three daughters, Shannon K. (Chris) DiLucia of Cascade, MI, Tracy L. (Allen Smith) Sawyer and Wendy S. (William) Lipps, both of Battle Creek; her three precious grandchildren, Megan (Andrew) Martin, Christopher DiLucia and Jade Lipps and a special inherited daughter, Lynn Ellis of Bakersfield, CA. Char was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Alice Stine and two brothers, Wayne and Phillip Forysthe.
The Service of Witness to the Resurrection and Thanksgiving for the Life of Char will be held on Saturday, March 15th at 11:00 a.m. at the Pennfield Presbyterian Church, 7979 St. Marys Lake Road, Battle Creek, MI 49017 with Rev. Douglas R. Nettleton, Pastor, officiating. The family will greet friends on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the Church. Family and friends are invited to continue Char's life celebration with a time of fellowship and a luncheon immediately following the service in the Church Social Hall. Private, family interment will take place in Hicks Cemetery, Pennfield Township in the Spring. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Char's honor may be directed to the Church or the Humane Society of South Central Michigan, 2500 Watkins Road, Battle Creek, MI 49015. The Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home, Battle Creek is in charge of all the arrangements.
