Clayton Richard Rice

Clayton Richard Rice, age 57, of Battle Creek passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday morning, January 16, 2018 at the Advantage Living Center in Battle Creek. He was born in Battle Creek on April 13, 1960, the son of Richard W. and Marlene A. (Jaeger) Rice. Clayton graduated from Lakeview High School with the Class of 1978, where he swam on the swim team, and furthered his education at Western Michigan University, receiving a Bachelors in Criminal Justice. He retired from the Michigan State Police in 2002 after more than 16 years of service as a Trooper with the Bridgman Post.

Clayton was sadly preceded in death by his mother, Marlene on January 20, 2017. He is survived by his daughter, Alyssa (Lincoln) Fox of Texas; his grandchildren Jonah & Stella Fox of Texas; his father, Richard of Battle Creek; his sisters, Debra (Duane) Newman and Michelle Lucero, both of Battle Creek; his niece, Melissa (Matty Freds) Newman; his nephews, Matthew Newman and Preston Lucero; and a special friend, Sharon Townsend.

Clayton was an avid University of Michigan football fan and enjoyed golfing & fishing when he was physically able. He truly loved spending time with his family, especially his daughter and grandchildren.

The family will receive friends 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 27th at Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care where a memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday.
