Colleen E. Hamp

Mrs. Colleen E. Hamp, died peacefully Oct. 11, 2016 in Sugar Land, TX., having been ill since 2013 from TIA strokes. Born Oct. 22, 1932 in Battle Creek, MI. to William "Mike" P. and Thelma M. Hamlin. She eloped on May 5, 1951 to marry Eugene M. Hamp. This past spring, they joyously celebrated 65 years of marriage. She was Eugene's love of his life. A true love story.


As a child she attended the Seventh Day Adventist Tabernacle and Academy in Battle Creek. A high school graduate with honors from Cedar Lake Academy, Cedar Lake, Mi. She played the marimba and was a prominent singer in both academies performing with the choirs, a sextet and a trio. After moving their family to Oshkosh, Wi. in 1959 she graduated from the University of Wisconsin – Oshkosh with a degree in Bachelor of Science. For 30 years with joy and dedication she taught elementary school, 28 of them in Fond du lac, Wi. She taught special education for the five years. After retiring Mr. and Mrs. Hamp for years enjoyed touring the U.S. extensively in their R. V. and visiting historical sites of interest, family and friends and along the way becoming an avid cook.


Survivors include her husband, Eugene; 3 children, Gloria Hamp of Richmond, Tx., Steven Hamp and partner Linda Belhman of Oshkosh, Wi., and Rodney and wife Jennifer Hamp of Sugar Land, Tx. There are 7 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Kenneth, her beloved brother and wife Connie Hamlin, their children Michael and wife Melissa Hamlin, Kimberly and husband Darren Cossaart, and Jeffery and wife Stacy Hamlin. There are 7 great nieces and nephews.


Funeral services to celebrate Colleen's life will be 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 25, 2016 at Floral Lawn Memorial Gardens. In Colleen's honor, donations may be directed to Kenya Work's, P.O.
