Corey Thomas Brown

d. March 2, 2026

Kalamazoo and formerly of Battle Creek

Corey Thomas Brown, 43, of Kalamazoo and formerly of Battle Creek, Michigan is now looking over us, after soaring to Heaven on Monday, March 2, 2026.

Corey was born on February 16, 1983, in Battle Creek, Michigan. He grew up in Battle Creek and attended Battle Creek Central High School where he swam for the Bearcats. He earned his GED and has been employed as a chef in several food ventures in the Kalamazoo area for 25 years, the last three years as a chef, catering for Millennium Group Restaurants.

Surviving are Corey’s parents, G. Scott and Kevie Marie (Brown) Anderson; his sister, Morgan (Nick Crill) Anderson of Kalamazoo; and several beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, as well as many amazing friends and co-workers. Corey was preceded in death by his brother, Nick Anderson on January 5, 2015.

Corey enjoyed learning to cook with his grandma and continued to prepare stupendous food for his family and friends, no matter what size group. He enjoyed learning the trade, teaching many to cook and to love preparing delicious food and the art of presentation. He enjoyed the outdoors and river kayaking and canoeing. Especially, in his favorite place, The Platte River. He called target practice his gunpowder therapy. Corey was social, outgoing, welcoming and had the ability to make people laugh and have fun together. He enjoyed all kinds of music, the old classics and all the genres since. Corey had a kind heart, the go to guy when you needed anything, always there in a pinch. He would stop his car and give coats to those less privileged, always helping the underdog. He always wanted to learn and out of curiosity would disassemble mechanical items and then put them back together successfully, most of the time. Corey was known to push the limits and was mischievous. He loved everyone young and old, especially his family, “that Brown Tribe”.

Corey will always be remembered for his many wonderful attributes, but most of all his infectious smile. When you’re having a bad day, close your eyes, imagine his beautiful smile and it will make you feel better!

Friends will be received 12:20 – 1:20 p.m. Saturday, March 7, 2026, at St. Philip Catholic Church (92 Capital Avenue NE, Battle Creek, MI 49017) where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. James Richardson at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, March 7, 2026.
