Dale E. Cummins

Dale E. Cummins, age 83, of Battle Creek, MI, died Sunday morning, March 24, 2013 at Bronson Battle Creek Hospital, following a lengthy illness.

Dale, the son of Kenneth M. and Velma M. (Grimes) Cummins, was born on October 14, 1929 in Pierceton, IN. Dale moved to this area and was a 1946 graduate of Lakeview High School. Dale served his country honorably as a Corporal in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was a recipient of the Korean Service Medal with 1 Service Star serving with an Artillery Unit. Dale was employed in sales with Norman Foods and was with the Binder Park Golf Course as a marshal after retiring from Norman Foods. He loved nothing more than playing a round of golf, watching the Masters and doing yard work with his Australian Shepherds; Mandy, Missy-Lou and Megan.

On December 24, 1948 in Battle Creek, Dale was united in marriage to the former Ruthanne Heselschwerdt. Surviving is his wife of 62+ years, Ruthanne and his daughter, Julie A. Cummins of Battle Creek. Dale was preceded in death by his parents; by twin sons, Michael B. Cummins on November 3, 1985 and Jeffrey A. Cummins on December 31, 1985 and his brother, Gerald Sellers.

The Private, Graveside Service to celebrate Dale's life will be held on Friday, March 29th at 11:00 a.m. Memorial Park Cemetery Chapel, 2435 Territorial Road, Battle Creek, with the Rev. David L. Morton, Associate Pastor of Chapel Hill United Methodist Church, officiating and the United States Army Honor Guard will bestow military honors. Friends will be received on Thursday, March 28th from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home, Battle Creek. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Dale's honor may be directed to the Humane Society of South Central Michigan, 2500 Watkins Road, Battle Creek, MI 49015 or the National Kidney Foundation of Michigan, 1169 Oak Valley Road, Ann Arbor, MI 48108.
