Dalyn C. Hoffman

December 23, 1938 — December 4, 2025

Augusta

Dalyn C. Hoffman, age 86, of Augusta, passed away peacefully after a lengthy illness on December 4, 2025. Born on December 23, 1938, Dalyn lived a full and generous life grounded in family, service, faith, and an endless curiosity for how things worked.

A proud veteran, Dalyn served his country from 1962 to 1964 as a member of the 158th Army Band. Dalyn had a long and successful career with The Upjohn Company, where he was recognized not only with the prestigious Upjohn Award in 1972 but also as the recipient of a company patent. He retired in 1992 after decades of dedication, integrity, and innovation.

Dalyn was a true craftsman—someone who could build or fix just about anything. He even built his family’s home; a testament to his skill, determination, and love for hands-on work. His talents were extended into the community as well. Dalyn was the recipient of the Honored Citizen award (2004), served on the Galesburg-Augusta School Board (1976-1984) and the Augusta Village Council for 5 years, demonstrating his deep commitment to the place he called home. A faithful member of Augusta United Methodist Church, he generously gave his time to others, volunteering for Meals on Wheels and the local food pantry.

He loved the simple pleasures of life: traveling, bowling, golfing, tending to his yard, sharing coffee, cookies and pie with friends, and spending time with his family. Dalyn also loved cars and drag racing in his younger years—reminders of a lifelong appreciation for speed, precision, and craftsmanship.

Above all, Dalyn was a family man. He was a devoted husband to his late wife, Nancy (Chapman) Hoffman, and a proud father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is survived by his son, Steve Hoffman (Caren Reynolds); his daughter, Kristin Coulter (Rob); grandchildren Stuart Coulter, Jack Coulter, and Morgan Hoffman; and great-grandson Winston Hoffman. He is also survived by his sister, Marcea Schwartz; nieces Michelle Fleckenstein (Brian) and Lori Henderson (Bob); nephew John Schwartz (Kathy); and many extended family members who loved him dearly.

Dalyn was preceded in death by his parents, Caryl and Marguerite (Broberg) Hoffman; his step-mother, Lucile (McIntyre) Hoffman; brother-in-law John Schwarta; mother-in-law Helen Chapman; his niece Vicki (Schwartz) Howe; and his beloved wife, Nancy.

Dalyn’s life was defined by kindness, service, ingenuity, and love. His steady presence, warm humor, and generous spirit will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
