Daniel Gordon Wagner, 89, passed away Tuesday, July 9, 2024.
Dan was born July 8, 1935 in Detroit to Robert Louis and Alice (Oleksyn) Wagner. On September 1, 1956, in Kalamazoo, he was united in marriage to Suzanne Cooper. Together, they raised eight children. He served his country honorably in the Army for three years and was stationed at Fort Devens in Fitchburg, Massachusetts. Upon discharge from the Army in 1958, Dan and Sue moved back home to Michigan. In 1963, the family moved to Sparta, New Jersey. While in Sparta, they were active members of their church parish, Our Lady of the Lake. Dan was also a member of the Sparta Jaycees and served as a chapter president. In 1975, the family moved back to Michigan, where they lived at Lake Doster in Plainwell. In 2000, Dan retired from his job as an Independent Sales Representative and the couple then moved to Bonita Springs, Florida. They continued to live in Florida for fifteen years. During their years in Bonita Springs, Dan was an active member of their community. He served as the Master Board President of Worthington Country Club. He enjoyed golfing, playing cards and in his younger years racing boats.
Dan is survived by his wife, Suzanne Wagner; children, Colleen (Charles) Beamer of Mill Hall, PA, Lisa (Daniel) Sheridan of Lexington, SC, Kimberly (Garry) Shephard of Chesapeake, VA, Todd (Terinna) Wagner of Elkhart, IN, Paul (Donna) Wagner of Fuquay Varina, NC, Amy (David) Conner of Rockford, MI, Troy (Stephanie) Wagner of Vicksburg, MI; daughter-in-law, Camilla Wagner of Centennial, CO; nineteen grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. Dan was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Alice Wagner; brother, Robert Wagner and a son, Scott Wagner.
A memorial mass will be held for Dan on Thursday, August 1, 2024 at 11:30 a.m. at St. Ann Catholic Church in Augusta, MI. Inurnment and military honors will follow at Fort Custer National Cemetery, Augusta, MI. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Michigan Veterans Home at Grand Rapids, 2950 Monroe NE, Grand Rapids, MI 49505.
