Dar Cem, the eldest son of the late Hrang Kap (Hlawn Ceu tribe) and Thawr Iang, was born on July 3, 1954, in Falam, Chin State, Burma (Myanmar).
Dar is preceded in death by the following siblings: on paternal side, Rev. Bawi Lian Thawng, Ting Ley and surviving siblings are Ngun Sang, Sung Cer, Than Cung Nung, Rev. Dr. Lal Pek Lian, and Pastor Ṭha Meng. On maternal side, Thuah Vum, Hlawn Cia, Lal Lian Uk, Biak Ceu, and his surviving sibling is Sarah Tawk Ṭial Zolianbawi.
Dar pursued his studies at Lumbang SMS (now SHS). On January 20, 1980, he married Rebecca Cawinei Cem, daughter of the late Mang Aung and Zun Hrang, in Lumbang, Chin State. Together, they are blessed with five children: Jennifer Suiremmawi Cem, Issabella Biakhnempar Bik, Nathan Thawnglianmang Cem, David Vannunuk Cem, and Mark Hlawnliansang Cem. He was additionally blessed with eleven grandchildren: Isaiah Bik, Phoebe Bik, Laura Bik, Samuel Myatwailin, Grace SiangNeiPar, Noah VanVaal, Zion Cem, Nahum Cem, Naya Cem, Abigail Cem, and Alora Cem.
Dar was gifted with many skills including house/building renovation, car repair, masonry, gardening, and also blessed with an amazing voice. In Lumbang, he served as an unofficial electrician/repair man for all machines related repair for many years. He was always willing to offer his help, often for free. He was very loving toward his family and friends, always the first to lend a hand.
Dar’s faith was central to his life and he served for many years at Lumbang Gospel Baptist Church. He used his voice for worship, often leading choirs and congregational singing. His talent and devotion inspired many in the church community.
In 2001, Dar came to United States and settled in Battle Creek, MI. He held employment at Musashi Auto Parts Inc. (Michigan), Koyo Corporation, and DENSO Manufacturing, until his retirement in 2019. However, he continued to serve as one of the elders, lead choirs or group songs at Gospel Baptist Church in Battle Creek.
On August 15, 2025, Dar was very sick with pneumonia and end up being hospitalized at Bronson Battle Creek. During his hospital stay, he was surrounded by his beloved wife, children, and relatives. On August 23, 2025, at 2:40 a.m., he passed away peacefully, entering eternal rest with his Heavenly Father.
Dar’s family will receive friends for visitation Friday, August 29 from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. at Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Cremation Preneed Care and Saturday, August 30 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Falam Baptist Church, where a funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
